Tapas
Tapas – zealous, sustained practice; self-discipline required for alchemy.
This ‘lil bugger keeps showing up in different places, but never disappears. The rains have pounded and destroyed her web multiple times in the past few days. Yet, within hours, she spins new art.
Lil man in the house is a bit arachnid phobic, but I’m keeping Spidey around, simply for her wisdom.
Despite her very security getting swiped from under her legs, she keeps showing up. Because she can’t NOT be a spider and do what spiders do in the world. And she shows up brilliantly… Every. Single. Time.
Can you say the same for your day-to-day activities? It’s not easy. If it were, everybody would act in this manner. Sometimes circumstances fuel desire. If you are out of work, you could be sending out 100 resumes a week and interviewing at dozens of companies only to get rejected. You push on because it’s critical that you land a job to support your family.
What about that goal to improve nutrition and exercise regularly? If after a few weeks of early morning workouts and eating more broccoli you don’t see results, do you give in? Is it still worth the sacrifice and hard work? Here’s where tapas – that inner fire and self-discipline separates those who continue and those who give in.
If we walk the earth, we stand the chance of getting the wind knocked out of us. We can sulk or rebuild. We can fall down as many times as we need to, to learn how to fall and get back up. Sometimes we might have needed a new web anyway.
Thank you, Spidey, for this lesson.
